The telc C1 University is a special exam for university applicants. Many German universities use it as sufficient proof Knowledge of German is accepted for admission - but not by everyone. Before learning: Check whether your desired university recognizes the telc C1 university.

The exam is tailored to the requirements of a university course: It tests the understanding of scientific texts, the writing of explanations and the discussion of complex topics.

Important note: Not every university accepts telc C1 Hochschule. The most recognized and widely used certificates for university entrance are TestDaF (4×4) and DSH-2. telc C1 University is a real alternative, but not a given.
Exam format
The examination consists of a written and an oral part. The tasks simulate typical university situations: understanding lectures, analyzing specialist texts, leading discussions.

Recognition at universities
Acceptance is growing, but is not widespread. Popular examples: TU Berlin, University of Hamburg, LMU Munich (partly), University of Cologne, many universities of applied sciences. If in doubt: check on a case-by-case basis.
